Mallika Shakya is a sociologist and a poet. She works as a Senior Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at South Asian University, pursing two of her research interests. First, exploring the poetics of nationalism, and second, analysing how livelihoods are embedded in broader social and cultural norms. A recent publication she edited, “Poetic Imagining(s) in South Asia: Writing Nation Through Sensibilities of Resistance”, published by Sage, brought together poets, literary scholars and anthropologists to theorize emotion. Her earlier book “Death of an Industry: The Cultural Politics of Garment Manufacturing during the Maoist Revolution in Nepal” was published by Cambridge University Press in 2018 and documented industrialisation through common people’s experiences. She is a poet and has collaborated with film makers.
